I was greeted with a cheery wave as I pulled into the driveway. Such a friendly face, wreathed in the gentle lines of happiness, and a life well lived.
\”Come on up,\” she said, waving me into their home.
I walked up the steps, with their little dog barking her head off at me, yap yap yap yap, shrill and excited, but with her tail wagging happily at the same time. I was here to see the big dog, who was standing back at the door with a huge grin on her face. She looked so much better! The severe limp she had in her left hind leg was now hardly noticeable, she\’d lost a bit of weight, and her coat had a healthy shine again. I watched her walk in ahead of me.
\”Wow,\” I said. \”You\’d hardly know she was the same dog!\”
\”Yes, she\’s back to her old self, playful, happy and really enjoying life. Would you like a cup of tea?\”
\”I\’d love a cuppa,\” I said as I settled down on the low couch and pulled my computer out. I looked back over my notes for the past visits. Today was her first 3 monthly follow up visit for a cartrophen injection and a Whole Energy Body Balance session. She\’d presented hopping lame on her left hind, where she\’d had a cruciate repair operation years ago, and she was super itchy (she had been all her life), hot like a water bottle to touch all over her body, though especially on her tummy and around her mouth. I\’d treated her with homeopathy, acupressure, cartrophen injections (for the arthritis), and put her onto a green lipped mussel supplement as well. And, of course, I got her off all packet and tinned food, and back onto a healthy BARF type diet. I could see from my notes that there had been good improvement throughout the first four weeks of treatment, but now, 3 months later, she was heaps better again. I called her up onto the couch, and looked at her more closely.
\”Her skin is so much better,\” I said. \”A little pink here and there, but that angry , hot, red itchiness is all gone.\”
\”Yes,\” her mum replied. \”Her skin is the best it\’s ever been, in her whole life, and she\’s an old girl now. Another thing I\’ve noticed is that she has got her sense of play back, and she\’s so much happier in herself. It\’s lovely to see.\”
I started to work on her body. As soon as my hands rested on her, she gave a big sigh, stretched a little, and then relaxed into it, luxuriating in my touch. Her eyes became heavy, and before long she was snoring gently as I released pain and tension from her body. When I\’d first touched her for the first session, her body was strung tight, singing with pain and tension. Today there was some tension, but it was only superficial, and dissolved quickly under my seeking fingers. Every now and then she\’d take another deep breath, and stretch a little.
\”She\’s really enjoying that, isn\’t she!\” her mum said.
I paused, took a sip of my peppermint tea, and stretched myself out a bit. \”Yes, she\’s soaking it up, isn\’t she.\”
I went back to the quiet, meditative healing space of the WEBB session, marvelling at the positive changes I could see and feel in this grand old lady. \”This is what fuels my life,\” I thought to myself. \”This is what inspires me to keep on going when things are tough; seeing such amazing changes in the quality of life of my patients.\” After I\’d finished the session, I gave her the booster cartrophen injection, and then sat for a while, chatting about the world and what was going on, this never ending tapestry of life. We ranged far and wide in conversation, as our cups of tea slowly vanished. Finally, the next visit called me down to my van, and I drove off, with a friendly wave sending me on my way…
